Laboratory Dancers presents: Ladies First
7:30pm | The Athenaeum Theatre

LADIES FIRST is an evening-length collaboration consisting of three independent, but connected, pieces. Using sound, film, movement, and object manipulation, we explore societal views of femininity, competition, durability, and gaze. Through our own personal experiences, we write, discuss, and dissect what it means to be a woman. We’re learning how to build each other up, combat the negative ways that women are portrayed, and find self-love, compassion, and sisterhood.

We have been working on LADIES FIRST for two years. It’s been an organic process, bubbling up out of conversations among friends. With the current political climate, the work feels more relevant now than ever, exploring femininity, sisterhood, and empowerment. Let us open the door for you 😉

Sunday

Canasta’s already back at it… And this time, we’re playing Park Ridge’s inaugural “Main Street Oktoberfest,” which is being organized by our own Ryan Tracy and his establishment, Beer on the Wall, along with The Harp & Fiddle!

The fest will boast two beer tents featuring both German imports and craft brews, plus food trucks, local restaurants and of course, live music. And Sunday is “Family Day,” which means bouncy castles, face painting, balloon artists and following Canasta, a set of sing-along polkas, rockers and oldies from German-American band Phenix… So grab your family and come join us as we hoist lagers and mangle lyrics at the top of our lungs auf deutsche!
