Guess what’s back?! That’s right, #ROCRecommends! To ensure that we stick by #AllChicagoEverything, we’re including events that feature artists of interest! These are the events that we’re excited for this weekend.
Fiesta del Sol
In 1972 Fiesta del Sol began as a celebration to commemorate PNCC’s role in securing the city’s commitment to building Benito Juarez Leadership Academy. Today, Fiesta del Sol continues to reflect the organization’s desire for social transformation.
Fiesta del Sol is going on all weekend so take a trip to Pilsen and enjoy food and music!
“Music by and for anxious, queer punks.”
“Ex/current members of Vee Dee, Daylight Robbery, The Coldies, The Krunchies, Sun Ra, The Beatles, Molly Hatchet, etc.”
“Chicago queer & trans garage punk that is sometimes brooding and sometimes poppy.”
“A bass and a drum doing two things at the same time making one thing happen.”
EP RELEASE SHOW! Rock and roll, hoochie coo!
weird funky-surfy-twangy-altpop rock trio on tour from Eugene, OR
Nipple is a four-piece funk outfit formed in 2011 from members of Sam Sinclair Trio & Bonzo Terks. It consists of Brendan McAlinden on drums/cymbals, Dan Cantone on electric guitar, Keenan Foley on saxophone, and Luc Parcell on electric bass. Nipple draws influence from Parliament Funkadelic, Charlie Hunter, James Brown, Eddie Harris and our local Chicago music peers.
Our Story is a simple one, that of four young men who sought to escape, if only for a few hours time, the futility of their jobs in the working world through their art. Having had years of experience in the musical Gotham of Chicago, these boys wish now to dedicate themselves in crafting you the finest of pop & rock confections that modern technology has to offer. WE BELIEVE in simple lines drawn with diligence. WE BELIEVE in our contemporaries and forbearers. WE BELIEVE in the stylized nature of modern rock music (as opposed to a modality of dance), yet WE BELIEVE in a GOOD TIME had by all, all the time, and for all times. We’re thrilled for you to join us. Boomshakalaka.
Latín Fusión Band. Founded in 2007 by Grammy® and Latin Grammy® nominee Renato Ceron and teacher, entrepreneur and author Marisol Ceron. Based in Chicago.
Returning to our stage are our old friends ABSOLUTELY NOT, who are always a god damn pleasure. Even more of a pleasure is when they release a new record and we celebrate it here, which is exactly what is happening! They released a killer new single last Novemeber titled Programmed via No Trends Records, which indicates just a taste of the amazingness we should expet from this trio’s new release. ABSOLUTELY NOT plays it fast and makes it a bit dark, but never takes themselves too seriously. Prepare to get wet & wild with em tonight.
Old EB pals NEGATIVE SCANNER are returning to kick this evening into gear. This band emerged like a Phoenix from the ashes of Rebecca Flores and Tom Cassling’s former band, TYLER JON TYLER. Partnering with Nick Beaudoin and Matt Rivers, they’ve formed a dark and noisy punk combo that’s put the underground demons of this fair city under its spell.
New-ish local band MONTROSE MAN (featuring members of BLEACH PARTY, BEAT DRUN JUEL, and LASERS & FAST & SH!T) are a killer trio of hard-as-hell, post-everything punk rockers that also celebrate the release of a record tonight, Lazy Looker, their debut LP.
DJ SHANNON CANDY keepin sweet on the decks.
